![]() This highlights one of the real draws for Cinder: you don’t have to follow the traditional path of the fairytale at all. ![]() A Cemetery, Forest, Town and Palace can all be travelled to from the house. You soon overlook it it wouldn’t be much fun to play a visual novel set in a single dungeon room (your tastes may differ here). It’s a bit of a wrinkle in the believability, as Cinders wants us to believe that she is a housebound slave, but then she regularly wakes up at noon and travels to the local town on a whim. Cinders has a bit more crackle than you might expect, then, which is a good thing: no one wants to play a game with antiquated values that casts you as the scullery maid.Īlso unlike the Cinderella stories you might know, Cinders spends more time outside of the house than in it. Even if you choose the most neutral of options, you’ll find that the scripted elements bring back the snark regardless. There’s passive-aggressive snark, self-righteous snark and full-on firebrand snark. Rather than being demure and accepting, you get the chance to add a bit of snark. So far, so familiar – until the dialogue options hit. You play Cinders, coerced into doing manual jobs around the house by her stepmother, Lady Carmosa, while being heckled by two (not at all ugly) stepsisters, Sophia and Gloria. The story starts at the end, which seems to be customary nowadays, and then rewinds to a point seven days before the Prince’s masquerade ball.
